A Funny Wedding Story!
By Liz Weston MillerOf course I think of Travis constantly throughout my day. I'm not sure why, but I am having a hard time thinking of funny things that happened between him and I. There were tons of them. As everyone who knows Travis and I know, we spent a lot of time joking and fooling around. He could do great imitations of people. He could do me, Troy, Grammy. He would have me rolling with laughter. But that's not the story I'm planning to write about.
Before I go on, I want to share something on a serious note. One of the greatest regrets I have about Travis passing away is that I will never have the opportunity to see him get married and have children. I would have really enjoyed watching him be a husband and father. I definitely would have harrassed him as much as I could and I would have cherished my grandchildren.
Well, when Phil and I got married in 1996, Travis just went off to his first year of college. Travis felt it was his duty to "decorate" my car towards the end of the wedding. He had Trey and Ben (two of his friends from Norwich University), Troy, Jeff, Adam, Jenn, Ginger and Robert assist him in completing the task of "decorating" our car. Of course, they did the standard of toilet paper, shaving cream, balloons tied to the back of the car, and a garter hanging off the rear view mirror. Phil and I, of course, took this little stunt in stride. We felt extremely ridiculous at our ages driving to Bangor with our car in this condition. Many people honked and waved and gave us the thumbs up sign while driving. The next morning Phil and I took the car to the nearest car wash and proceeded on with our honeymoon to the White Mountains in New Hampshire.
This proves that Travis didn't listen too well to me because he "forgot" that we were stopping at Old Orchard Beach before we went to the White Mountains. Well, he and his friends, Ben and Trey, decided to stop and pay Phil and I a visit in New Hampshire at the hotel we were staying at to trash our car for the second time before going back to Vermont. Obviously we were not there, so they left us a message at the front desk that they stopped to see us.
You all must know the saying about paybacks? Well, Phil and I feel extremely cheated because we had the best payback just waiting for him and his new bride when the time came. We planned on visiting them on their wedding night with a pizza! Just "Mama" and Phil stopping by for pizza and a visit! I know that he is laughing down at us right now. His face would have been priceless when he opened the door to see us. Again, I believe that he thinks he got the last laugh!
