How I Came to Know Trav
By Leah Ouellette

It wasn't that long I knew him, but I was very close to Travis R. Weston. The first day I met Trav was January 1, 2000. What a fun way to start off the new year. I met him through Liz, Phil, and Troy...them being my family's new neighbors.

Liz invited me to go down and visit (a few days before, I went to their house and Liz and I worked it out for me to "baby-sit" Troy, 11 years old at the time.). I was going down to their house because Liz and I were going to finalize the baby-sitting arrangements and Liz wanted to "hook me up" with Adam. I wasn't too fond of the "hooking up" idea, but went down anyway and dragged my sister, Amy along as support.

When my sister and I arrived at Liz and Phil's, there was a suspecting car in the driveway. I remembered Liz telling me that Adam would be there, but the color of his car was teal. Well, when I saw two cars in the driveway, one teal, the other a black Saturn, I was unsure of who the Saturn belonged to. Amy and I slowly proceeded to the front door, knocking. Next thing we knew, the door flew open and there was Liz standing right in front of us. She scared us half to death. She invited us in and we did just that. Liz had a big smile on her face. She spoke and said "I am so glad that you decided to come over!" She politely took our coats and then introduced Amy and I to the dashing 2 young men who were in the living room. You could only guess...they were Travis and Adam. (At the time, Travis was home on break from the Navy as a surprise to Liz). When she introduced us to Travis, he swung himself over the couch, and was immediately in front uf us with a warm smile. We shook hands and confirmed the introduction; I was Leah, my sister was Amy.

After a short while of just getting to know eachother, we were all having a good time. We - Travis, Adam, Amy, and I - went down in the basement to play (or at least try to play) some ping-pong. Travis was so out-going, whereas we'd probably have to have known Adam longer for him to be that way. We all had fun drilling one-another with fun questions such as..."How old are you..." Travis was 23, Adam nearly 19, Amy nearly 20, and myself 16.

Playing ping-pong was fun with these two guys. None of us could play well because we were cold; being in the basement during the winter. The only source of heat down there was a mini-furnace.

So, cold as we were, we were trying our very best to hit the ball "on the table, over the net, on the tablre." That was one of the things we kept repeating because we couldn't quite get it right. The teams were Amy and I versus Adam and Travis. I think Trav and Adam won. Whenever it came my turn to hit the ball, Ii would constantly keep hitting either Adam or Travis, or the ball would go off the table. Amy was a little better than I. She wouldn't hit the guys with the ball; she'd just hit the ball off the table.

Done playing ping-pong, due to frigid temperatures and starvation, we all went back upstairs. Liz came to us and said that she and Phil had invited Amy and I to stay for supper. They ordered pizza and told Travis that he could take his car and we could all go get the pizza together. None of us opposed it.

After having a nice pizza, soda, chip supper, we all played Taboo. It was so much fun. We were all laughing at different things so it was hard for us to concentrate on the game. After all was over, Amy, Travis, and I won versus Liz, Phil, Adam, and Troy.

The night as a whole was so much fun. I hadn't remembered when the last time was that I had as much fun. It was really nice to get to meet Adam and Travis. Things never turned out how Liz "planned", but we all got along great!

To this day, I consider Travis one of my best friends, although he is no longer here. It was so easy to talk, joke around, and flirt with Travis. We had a bond that grew very strong. I still have that strong bond with Travis and I will never let it die out.

Sincerely,

Leah Ouellette
